How Beyond The Line reports
Beyond The Line aims to produce accurate, fair and independent journalism about endurance sport.
These principles guide every interview, profile and report published on the site.
Accuracy
Accuracy comes before speed.
Names, results, quotations and factual claims are checked before publication wherever reasonably possible.
If Beyond The Line makes a significant factual error, it will be corrected clearly and promptly.
Interviews & Quotations
Interviewees are represented fairly and quotations are not deliberately altered in a way that changes their meaning.
Minor edits may be made for clarity, repetition or readability where the substance of what was said remains unchanged.
Material presented as a direct quotation will accurately reflect what the interviewee said.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently.
Coverage is not offered in exchange for payment, and commercial relationships will not determine the conclusions of editorial reporting.
Fairness
Beyond The Line aims to represent people and events fairly and in context.
Where a story contains significant criticism or disputed claims about an individual or organisation, reasonable efforts will be made to give them an opportunity to respond.
Young Athletes
Beyond The Line regularly reports on emerging athletes, including athletes under the age of 18.
Extra care is taken when interviewing and reporting on young people, particularly regarding privacy, sensitive information and the appropriate involvement of parents, guardians or responsible adults where necessary.
Corrections
If you believe something published by Beyond The Line is inaccurate, please get in touch.
Confirmed errors will be corrected as quickly and transparently as possible.

How this works in practice
Interviews with athletes under 18
- A parent or guardian is asked for permission before the interview is arranged, and is told what the piece is for and where it will be published.
- A parent, guardian or coach is welcome to be present for the interview.
- The athlete can decline any question, and can ask for something they have said to be left out, at any point before publication.
- Interviews are arranged through a parent, guardian, coach or club rather than privately.
Personal information that is never published
- Home addresses, or anything narrower than a town or region
- Personal phone numbers and private email addresses
- School timetables, or the times and places of regular training sessions
- Anything about health, family or education that has not been offered for publication
Age, school, club and location appear only where they matter to the story and where the athlete — and, for an athlete under 18, a parent or guardian — has knowingly provided them for publication.
Photographs
Photographs are published with the permission of the athlete, and of a parent or guardian where the athlete is under 18, or are used with the permission of the photographer or rights holder. Images are captioned accurately and are not altered beyond cropping and ordinary correction.
